The winner of our first competition has been chosen and notified You too could win a copy of this excellent piece of Spurs history.
There's a new Spurs book on the market, and I love it! Published by Haynes Publishing and written and compiled by experienced journalist Adam Powley When Football was Football - Tottenham Hotspur - A nostalgic look at a Century of the Club is another worthy, and I'd even say vital addition to any self-respecting Spurs fan's library.
I have been lucky enough to read, and I possess numerous Spurs books, and this one will have pride of place in my personal Spurs book-shelves. I call it "The Affordable Opus" because it contains numerous historic images, many of which will not have been seen before. The official Spurs Opus is of course a massive tome (in both senses) with a massive price, but this one is priced at a level that will suit any pocket.
The book will make a great Christmas present too, and can be purchased at bargain prices via the Amazon links on this page. However, you can win a copy of the book in this, the second of two competitions on Spurs Odyssey.
Firstly, for some reason the figure NINE is coming into my head, and I thought I'd tell you 9 things (at random)I noticed and like about this book:-
1. Amazing pictures related to the use of club premises during the First World War for the manufacture of gas masks.
2. A great full size image of Tommy Harmer (The Charmer) in training, and his quote after the 10-4 victory over Everton of "We don't score ten every week, you know".
3. Behind the scenes photographs such as those of Dave Mackay recovering from both his broken leg injuries.
4. A marvellous aerial shot of the high-flying Alan Gilzean in action.
5. Some little known information about Jimmy Dimmock, scorer of Spurs 1921 winning FA Cup goal.
6. Chronological history, backed by informative text, quotes and informal photographs, culled in some cases from various newspaper archives.
7. It's about the club we all love so dearly - Tottenham Hotspur!
8. It's almost as cheap as the curry chips you can get down Tottenham High Road!
9. The foreword by Steve Perryman.
