Let's do it again Spurs!

Like a good political spin doctor, I am going to produce statistics which show that since ending the most horrible of Premier League hoodoos in November 2006, Spurs record against Chelsea holds up well to scrutiny:-

Spurs League record in last 4 seasons against Chelsea:-

05 Nov 2006 Chelsea (h)	2-1 W
07 Apr 2007 Chelsea (a)	0-1 L
12 Jan 2008 Chelsea (a)	0-2 L
19 Mar 2008 Chelsea (h)	4-4 D
31 Aug 2008 Chelsea (a)	1-1 D
21 Mar 2009 Chelsea (h)	1-0 W
20 Sep 2009 Chelsea (a)	0-3 L

It all started with that Aaron Lennon winner in November 2006, and carried on until Luka Modric swept home the ball for a marvellous one goal win in March last year. Spurs have also drawn two of our fixtures in this period, even managing to draw at Stamford Bridge for one of our "two points in eight games"!

Lennon's supreme winner disected Ashley Cole and John Terry to make a great picture, as well as a great goal of course! Unfortunately for Spurs, Lennon is still not match fit, despite training again yesterday after another set-back on his road back from a groin injury. On the other hand, Ashley Cole will start from the bench for his first game since 10th February, when he was injured at Everton. Cole's return is good news for England fans, as he is easily the best full back in the country. Cole even scored the first of Chelsea's three goals when we lost at their place in September last year.

That September defeat followed defeat at home to Man Utd, after Spurs' great start to the league season. I wrote after the Chelsea defeat that Spurs would do well to hold on to sixth place, as they had two strokes of reality. Now I am feeling more optimistic after our magnificent win against Arsenal on wednesday night. At this time we do only have to match Man City's results for the rest of the season, and beat them at Eastlands next month to secure fourth place! City host United this lunch-time, and we will know what is required of us by the time we kick off at 5.30. Mind you, we 'll be after another win, come what may!

A big problem for Spurs is that the side could be further weakened since the Arsenal game. We've been told that Ledley "might be available", but that would be historic in the terms of this season, although Ledley did play three games within 10 days in January. Otherwise, the Spurs team will have the same problems, and if Ledley does not play, his place will be taken by Sebastien Bassong. Despite his wonder debut and goal, I would expect Danny Rose to start on the bench today, with David Bentley starting.

Chelsea of course are favourites now for the title, and will be after a win today. Their form on Tuesday night, when they beat Bolton 1-0 was not great, but overall, they have been in scintillating form recently, knocking West Ham, Portsmouth and Villa for 4, 5 and 7 goals respectively. They do still have some key absentees such as Carvalho, Bosingwa and Michael Essien, but The Blues will set Spurs as big a challenge as any they have faced this season.

Can Spurs do it? Well, I didn't think they'd manage a win on Wednesday night, and they'll have to play with the same degree of effort and skill today to get anything out of the game. I'll predict a draw at Eastlands, and at White Hart Lane, which will be enough to keep fourth place within our grasp.
