Corluka on his way out?
by a special correspondent
Vedran Corluka could be on his way out of Tottenham. According to reports, the defender is set to move to London rivals, West Ham on loan for the rest of the season.
The central defender-turned right-back has only played three times this season in the Premier League due to the emergence of England youngster, Kyle Walker.
And the Croatia international, 25, is said to be growing ever more restless at the lack of first team opportunities at White Hart Lane with the European Championships coming up later in the year.
By taking the chance to join Sam Allardyce's men and play regular first team football at Upton Park, Corluka hopes that he will be able to win a place in his national team's squad for the Championships in Poland and Ukraine.
However, West Ham are not believed to be the only club interested in taking Corluka, with Italian giants, Roma also keen to take him on loan.
Hammers chairman, David Sullivan says the club have already made bids for three players this January, but has warned fans not to get over-excited about the possibility of any big name signings arriving at the club.
Sullivan said: “It's not easy to acquire key players that clubs don't want to lose.”
Corluka began his career with Croatia's biggest club, Dinamo Zagreb back in 2003, where he went on to make over 60 appearances, scoring seven goals. His time at the club also included a successful loan spell with Zapresic.
He made his international début for Croatia in 2006, in a friendly against the then World Champions Italy. He played a key role in their qualification for Euro 2008, during which time he was noticed by the newly big spending Manchester City.
In 2007 he completed his move to Eastlands, for an undisclosed fee, widely believed to be in the region of £8 million. He was a regular in their side during the 2007-08 season, but that was to be his one and only campaign with the club.
He completed his switch to White Hart Lane and Tottenham in 2008, and has since gone on to make over 80 appearances for the club, scoring once.
A move to either West Ham or Roma will provide the ideal chance to get his career back on track. Before then, perhaps time is better spent on Stud Poker Games than following transfer speculation? Otherwise it could be a long month!
