Spurs close in on Remy

Spurs close in on Remy

Tottenham are reportedly close to signing Marseille’s highly rated striker Loic Remy for a fee around £16.5 million.

The 25-year-old scored twelve times in Ligue 1 last season and is currently under contract at Marseille but the clubs financial situation means they are likely to have to sell their star man for a much lower fee than they would want or know they could get.

Those looking at discount sports tickets will note that Harry Redknapp has been a big admirer of Remy and he would be a fantastic addition to a squad already full of attacking talent. Remy could be the key to challenging for the title next campaign.

With his current club finishing in tenth in the French top flight, Remy is more than likely to make a move away from the club as he will want to play European football. There is no doubt either that the English Premier League is one of the best around and it would be a real chance for him to prove himself as one of the best around.

The future of the likes of Luca Modric and Gareth Bale is under some doubt so a move for Remy would show Spurs’ intention and could keep their big name players at the club.

On another note, Spurs fans should be excited about the new season despite not being involved in the Champions League.

They proved last year that they are capable of going up against the big sides. Take the Redknapp to England saga out of the equations and they were genuine title contenders.

Who’s to say Spurs can't go all the way this campaign? With the Europa League probably being a tournament where Redknapp can call upon the younger players to prove themselves, full attention can turn to the Premier League.

When you look at Tottenham’s attacking options, they excite. Let’s say no one leaves and Remy does come into the side and Emmanuel Adebayor works out a deal to bring him to White Hart Lane.

You then have Scott Parker pulling the strings and making the team tick. Luka Modric creating the chances and spreading the ball out wide to Gareth Bale and Aaron Lennon who are a defender's nightmare with their raw pace. Remy and Adebayor are then a front two capable of 30 plus goals a season between them.

Tottenham can have a superb Premier League season, but they need to add to the squad to challenge the likes of Manchester City, Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal.
