This Matchday Two game saw German side Bayern Munich come to Hotspur Way in a match that started in heavy rain with thunder and lightning. If the game had not been moved to 3pm kick-off for television it would have been played in better conditions (even the TV cameras failed in the storm). The match was played on the first team pitch that runs north-south. Both sides drew their opening games, Spurs 1-1 at Olympiacos and and Bayern 0-0 at home to Red Star Belgrade.

Spurs lined up with Oluwayemi in goal behind Eyoma and Binks with Lusala making his first appearance at right back and White on the left. Bowden anchored the midfield with Oakley-Boothe and Maghoma ahead of him, They were flanked by Richards on the right and Markanday on the left in support of Parrott up front. Markanday and Richards soon swapped sides after the start. The bench was made up of players from the Premier U-18 Cup match on Saturday with the addition of Dennis Cirkin back from injury. Eyoma wore the number 5 and Binks 6 in the first half but with a change of shirt at half time they swapped numbers for the second.

Spurs defended the North end in the first half which turned into a midfield duel as both defences were strong, keeping chances to a minimum. This did not stop the visitors from taking an early lead when they won a free kick just outside the area to the right. Stiller took the kick which struck the underside of the bar at the near post. Zirkzee reacted quickest to tap the ball home.

Bayern got a second when Gunter got behind the back line and was able to curl the ball around Oluwayemi into the far side. With a two goal lead the Germans were happy to sit deep and try and break to hold off Spurs. Rhein was booked for a late tackle on Bowden when he got past him as Spurs looked to breach the German defence. Markanday produced a cross that was flicked on by Parrott to Richards at the far post. He came inside and scored inside the left post to reduce the arrears.

Bowden was booked for a trip on Tillman before Maghoma fired over. Gunter was sent away by Rhein but Oluwayemi saved. Gunter also fired wide as Bayern took advantage of Spurs pushing forward. Bowden had an effort over the bar from distance as the visitors kept Spurs at arm's length from their goal. In added time at the end of the first half Zirkzee drew a save from Gunter's pass.

There were no changes for the start of the second half which saw the Germans continue to sit deep and break against a Spurs side that had to push forward. The ref booked two Spurs players in the opening ten minutes before he began to let things go. Maghoma was booked for a foul and Oakley-Boothe for a pull.

From a corner, Binks header at the far post deflected onto the crossbar before Spurs made their first change. Cirkin came on for Maghoma and went to left back to allow White to move into midfield. Mosandl, who had come on a few minutes earlier, was played through on the left and advanced to beat Oluwayemi in a one on one to regain Bayern's two goal lead.

Zirkzee fired over before Spurs made their second change taking off Lusala for Walcott who linked up with Binks as Eyoma moved to right back. Eyoma was able to get forward more which led to him going into the ref's book for a late challenge on Herrmann. Binks headed wide at another corner before Bayern broke out and Gunter was able to get his second goal to increase their lead to 4-1.

Spurs immediately made a double change with Markanday and Oakley-Boothe being replaced by Etete and Pochettino, changing to 4-4-2. Binks again won the ball in the air at a free kick but headed wide. Oluwayemi saved a weak effort by Zirkzee from Cuni's pull back and saved another shot by Gunter for a corner. With Bayern closing out the game Cuni was booked for not retreating at a free kick. Cuni fired over from a Gunter pass before Parrott saw his effort deflected over for a corner. In added time Cirkin fired wide from a half clearence outside the area.

This was a bad result for Spurs who will play Red Star next. Red Star beat Olympiacos 2-1 to move into second place. Spurs will need to beat the Serbs for a chance of catching Bayern who will need to drop points somewhere. The scoreline does not reflect how close the game was but the German finishing was clinical.
