Former Spurs star: Willian wants a move to Tottenham

Former Spurs star: Willian wants a move to Tottenham

Spurs v Chelsea, 22.12.19

Since the restart of the Premier League due to the pandemic outbreak, some players left their club becoming a free agent in the market following the expiration of their contract in June(which was formerly the end of 19/20 campaign), while some due to their role in the team their clubs were able to negotiate a contract extension till the end of the season. Chelsea star Willian is one of these players.

After a new contract was handed, Willian will be in the Blues' shirt till the end of the season. The Brazilian, who is wanted by many clubs all over Europe, is now being linked with a move away from the club. Several reports claim that most of the clubs interested in the Brazilian are from the Premier League, with Chelsea rival Tottenham Hotspur taking the lead.

Since the arrival of manager Jose Mourinho at the White Hart Lane, Tottenham has been linked with a move to sign the Brazilian with reports claiming the Portuguese manager is interested in a reunion with his former player.

Now, former Spurs star Paul Robinson went to the media to claim that Willian prefers a move to White Hart Lane over his other transfer options.

Speaking to Football Insider, Robinson said: "Willian will not come cheap wages-wise. He’s a player that has a great relationship with Mourinho.

"If he wants to stay in London and Tottenham was an option for him, you would imagine, from what I know, he wants to join Tottenham and they would be his first choice.

"I do not think it would take long for him to win over the Spurs fans. A lot of Spurs fans would take him with open arms because he is a top-class player."

One could also say that Willian is so used to his life in London that he would not value a move to other regions in Europe having spent seven seasons in London.

The-32-year-old winger's performance under Mourinho has always been impressive back when they were at Stamford Bridge. And who knows, a reunion at the White Hart Lane might just see the winger's skill undergo a change too.

Before signing for Chelsea in the summer of 2013, Willian was rumoured to have been close to signing for Tottenham unfortunately the Blues were proficient in their hijacking skills and there were exaggerated odds on Football Betting at the time regarding the player's transfer.

The Brazilian winger's performance this 19/20 campaign for the Stamford Bridge outfit have been impressive and he is pivotal to their top-four hopes, as they are currently struggling with the remaining games.

Should Tottenham succeed in signing Willian this summer, he will be able to bring into the team versatility and speed in the winger position, which is best for a counter attack.

Despite not being a goalscoring maniac, Willian has been able to find the back of the net 11 times and further providing 8 assists for the London giants this season.

In other news, Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly rebuffed all offers coming from Europe for their superstar Ryan Sessegnon.

The report claims that La Liga giants Barcelona have also shown interest in the England international this summer with the hopes of signing him to Camp Nou.
