Looking ahead to Qatar 2022

Which Spurs players could make the England squad for the Qatar World Cup in 2022?

England went as close to a World Cup win as they had for 38 years when they reached the semi-finals in Russia in 2018, and their next opportunity to end the years of hurt will be in Qatar in 2022.

There is a little time left to wait until the next World Cup, but which of Tottenham's current squad is likely to be on the plane? We decided to investigate.

Harry Kane

Kane is England’s number 9, and an absolutely vital member of the team. Other strikers like Danny Ings and Dominic Calvert-Lewin may be in good form and knocking on the door, but Kane is the undisputed number one choice up front for England. He won the Golden Boot at the previous World Cup, which will have done much to boost his burgeoning reputation as one of the top strikers in world football.

To understand how big the World Cup is, you have to look at the wider context. The World Cup is one of the biggest sporting events on the planet, the interest in it is so wide that we have branded merchandise, films made by FIFA themselves as well as mentions of the tournament in other films and TV shows and games centered around the event. These game have included standalone titles as well as an expansion to the popular FIFA franchise for the latest tournament, although this isn't the only form of gaming that was inspired as you find specific World Cup themed slot game at sites such as Leovegas, and if you want to try it then getting free spins with no deposit required is super easy.

Eric Dier

Dier is in favour with boss Jose Mourinho at the moment and has a reasonable chance of forcing his way into Gareth Southgate’s side in 2022. Aside from Harry Maguire, centre-back is not one of England’s strongest areas, so a run of good form could make Dier impossible to ignore.

Dele Alli

Will Alli still be a Spurs player by the time 2022 rolls around? It is hard to say, but the former MK Dons man will need to improve his form if he is to feature regularly for England in the run-up to the World Cup. Those who have watched Spurs’ All or Nothing documentary on Amazon Prime will have noticed tension between Mourinho and Alli.

Harry Winks

A lovely passer of the ball, Winks has every chance of being involved in Qatar. The midfield pivot has been a problem position for Southgate, with Declan Rice and Kalvin Phillips two of the players to be involved in that position in recent times.

Ryan Sessegnon

Sessegnon arrived at Spurs amid a lot of hype but has struggled for first team football. The left-sided player is certainly talented though. He is set to benefit from a loan to Hoffenheim as he aims to get his career back on track and time is on his side as he has two seasons to convince. The lack of options on the left side of defence means Southgate is likely to be looking at his performances with interest.

Joe Hart

He surely couldn’t, could he? Hart was England’s keeper at Euro 2016, but has struggled since then. Hart would probably have to become Spurs’ number one to regain the attention of the England set-up, with promising young keepers like Dean Henderson and Aaron Ramsdale improving all the time.

As you can see there a number of players who are likely to be integral to Southgate's plans in 2022 and he has the Euros in 2021 to work out his best squad and build on the strong showing in Russia. There is also still a chance for players such as Jack Clarke and Japhet Tanganga to get in the squad if they can break into the first team between now and then.
