Here are the results of the Premiership matches played during the week-end of 31st January - 1st February, 2004. Many were played in very wet and windy conditions:-
This was the week when:-
· Birmingham scored a last gasp equaliser to salvage a point from Newcastle.
· Charlton missed Scott Parker and lost at home to Sam Allardyce's resurgent Bolton side, who managed to climb to 8th place without their star player Jay-Jay Okocha - one of several Premiership regulars absent due to the African Nations Cup. · Spurs lost a game for the first time on an occasion when Robbie Keane scored.
· Leeds lost their sixth successive game, and perhaps all hope of surviving as a Premiership outfit.
· Peter Crouch and Darius Vassell scored two apiece, as Aston Villa (bolstered by new signing Nobby Solano) scored 5 second half goals to crucify Leicester. Ian Walker was subject to abuse from an invading home fan, and Walker forcibly restrained the miscreant until halted by referee Jeff Winter.
· Nigel Martyn starred in goal for Everton, and Steven Gerrard bossed the midfield, but there were no goals at Anfield.
· Old Trafford's biggest Premiership crowd yet(67,758) saw the debut of Louis Saha, who scored a deflected free kick. Phillips scored two for Saints, but Van Nistelrooy's winner caused much debate about the offside rule and its interpretation.
· Wolves gained a precious point at gusty Portsmouth, with the help of new keeper Paul Jones, signed for the third time by Dave Jones, and playing for his third Premiership club this season. Yakubu arrived from the airport in time to make Pompey's bench, and made a substitute appearance, having been sent home early by Nigeria from Tunisia due to breaking the team rules regarding a night out.
· Anelka scored a late goal against the Gooners, only to get sent off for raising his hands to Ashley Cole when prevented from retireving the ball in an effort to re-start the game quickly. Cole got off with a yellow from referee Alan Wiley. Reyes came on as a substitute, and after a Tarnat own goal in the first half, Henry scored a stupendous winner before Anelka's strike.
· Blackburn lost their seventh home game of the season. They thought they had earnt a draw with young Gallagher's equaliser making it 2-2 (he had had a goal disallowed for offside earlier), but Glenn Johnson scored a great winner with two minutes to go, to keep Chelsea in the hunt for the title. Parker made his debut.
