January 2006

It's been another strenuous month for the players, and an expensive one for the fans, as Spurs have played 8 games, with only three of them being in the Premiership. Spurs have yet to win a League game this year, and last won in the Premiership against Aston Villa on Boxing Day. With Manchester United coming up on Sunday, a resurgent Sheffield United the following week, and Bolton at the end of the month, Premiership points will be hard to come by as Spurs hopes of winning Uefa qualification through the League finally fade into nothingness.

We have even struggled to cast Championship material aside, taking two games to dispose of Cardiff, and failing to dominate Southend till the second half, as far as the scoreline was concerned. Those two home games have been the best performances, although you can add to those the opening of both the Newcastle game and the first leg Carling Cup game against Arsenal.

Once again, you have to say that the overall performance of the team is average only, and I don't feel confident about results in any of the scheduled games for next month. If only we can beat Fulham in the FA Cup, then there could be a decent quarter-final tie waiting.

All this could be good news for the money-men, but perhaps the best news for the players will be the potential rest, due to a likely bye in the UEFA Cup. We'll know the result of the UEFA discipline appeal next Friday, and may still have to face Feyenoord.

There have been two goals apiece for Berbatov, Defoe, Keane, Mido and Steed Malbranque this month, and even Pascal Chimbonda has found the net (sadly at both ends!)

Spurs have now played 38 games this season, and despite the Carling Cup semi-final defeat, still have a potential 27 games remaining! There is still a lot to play for!
