The name on everybody's lips

The name on everybody's lips in the English football world is Harry Kane. 21 year old Harry's dream season just keeps going from strength to strength. Harry is the Spurs Odyssey player of the month for March (for the second month running), thanks to another five Premier League goals in the games against QPR and Leicester. Harry was man of the match in those games.

Those goals included Harry's first Premier League hat-trick, and his fourth Premier League brace, not only of this season, but of this calendar year so far. To cap all of that, Harry was selected for the first time for the England senior squad, then made his debut off the bench after 71 minutes, scoring within just 79 seconds.

I'm running out of headlines for Harry Kane. I used "Kane is able" years ago after an impressive Academy team appearance. This month we've had "Kane gives Hoops stick", when he scored our two goals at Loftus Road, and "Harry's game" after his hat-trick against Leicester. There will be future opportunities for opposition teams to be "Kaned" or receive a "Kaning".

All-time highest Premier League goal-scorer and Match of the Day pundit Alan Shearer has been quoted as saying that Kane reminds Shearer of himself. That's quite some plaudit from a man who scored 260 Premier League goals. Shearer led the clamour for Kane to start against Lithuania, but Roy Hodgson held him back leading to that fairy-tale goal-scoring debut off the bench.

The last time a Spurs player's name was on everybody's lips was Gareth Bale two years ago. This month, Kane has beaten Bale's 2012-13 record of 26 club goals in all competitions. Harry now has 29, with 8 possible games for him yet to play. When he scored his hat-trick against Leicester (and the dubious goals panel has decided that his deflected second goal stands as his goal), Kane was the leading Premier League goal-scorer overnight. It's a shame that Diego Costa scored the next day, and now stands on 19 level with Kane, but it is another great achievement.

It is a shame that hardly anybody else in the team has performed well consistently this month. Man of the match votes in the last four games alternated between Kane and Hugo Lloris. Lloris has had to miss the French Internationals due to his injury received in the first minute against Leicester, and we must hope he will be fit for next Sunday's game at Turf Moor.

Spurs Odyssey's player of the season vote will be between Lloris and Kane, with Lloris the clear leader at this stage. I suspect that Harry will win the club members' vote, and that Harry will will yet more awards before the season is out.

It is also a shame that we lost the Capital One Cup Final to Chelsea on March 1st, and that we lost such a crucial game at Old Trafford. Our goal difference has been in the negative for the second month running, and we have shipped 11 goals in this month's five games, failing to keep a clean sheet in our last 10 games.

Mathematically, we are still in with a chance of Champions League football, and we are within reach of a record Premier League points tally. We need 20 points from our last 8 games to beat our previous high of 72 points.

Realistically, we are looking at the prospect of a fifth consecutive season of Europa League football. At least we do have plenty to play for in our remaining 8 games.
