The Champions League brought more success to Tottenham as Jermain Defoe scored twice to help his side to 3-3 draw with Dutch champions FC Twente, ensuring Spurs finished top of Group A in their first season in the competition. The match saw Defoe complete his first full 90 minutes since having surgery on damaged ankle ligaments in September. The 28-year-old was glad to be back playing again after over two months on the sidelines.

"It's really good to be back. It is nice to play 90 minutes and try and get some match fitness. I had no problems with my ankle. It is just a case of getting games now," he said.

Defoe was lively throughout the match and took his two goals well. The first was a delicious chip over the oncoming keeper and the second was down to the awareness of the England striker who reacted first following a blocked shot from Wilson Palacios. Defoe's return will give the whole Spurs side a boost going into the important festive period.

Defoe hasn't scored a league goal this season and will be looking to put that right now he is back to full fitness. Pre-season he was a lot of people's football betting tips to top the goalscoring chart, but he will have to go some if he is to live up to those expectations.

With the season nearing the halfway point, Spurs are in good positions in both the title race and the Champions League. Harry Redknapp's side are six points behind rivals Arsenal at the top of the table but are about to embark on a very winnable run and the Spurs betting reflects this.

First up for Spurs will be an out of form Chelsea side this weekend at White Hart Lane. Chelsea have won only one league game out of their last six and Harry will be eyeing the match as a chance to inflict more punishment of Carlo Ancelotti's team.

After the Chelsea game will be matches against Blackpool, Aston Villa, Newcastle and Fulham. If Spurs can pick up maximum points from their December then they will genuinely be in with a chance of finally challenging the big three for the title.
