Squad rotation saw Spurs start with Granger in goal behind Ball and McEneff with Gardiner at right back and Colovic on the left. The midfield trio was Smith, Lesniak and Ward. Akindayini was up front between Michael-Percil on the right and Zapata-Caicedo on the left.

Spurs kicked off the first half attacking the south end but found Brugge moved the ball quickly from the back for their quick forwards. Storm had an early chance that he fired wide followed quickly by an effort that Granger saved. Granger made a half stop from a shot by Mbombo with McEneff clearing off the line.

Storm got down the left and crossed to Mbombo, but Colovic blocked his shot. Schaessens drew a save from Granger as Brugge kept the pressure on the Spurs back line. Ball was booked for holding Mbombo before the pressure finally told. From a corner Lesniak cleared a back post header off the line only for Mbombo to knock in the rebound.

Amazingly Essakil hooked the ball back to his keeper from inside the centre circle which Rchici picked up and kicked upfield – clearly a back pass but not to the referee. Granger saved from Schaessens and Coopman fired wide as the half ended.

Both sides made changes for the second half with Inglethorpe replacing Michael-Percil with McEvoy on the right side; Onomah came on for Smith in the midfield, and Coulthirst replaced Zapata-Caicedo on the left, taking the captain's armband.

McEvoy began to make inroads down the right which led to Libbrecht getting a yellow for stopping him going past. Reuten was having a go at Coulthirst on the left side as Spurs went in search of the equaliser conceding a free kick. Onomah floated the kick into the six yard box where Coulthirst got across the keeper to glance his header into the far corner.

Ward drew a save with a shot from the left before he was replaced by McQueen. Tensions were beginning to rise with Reutens not shy to put his foot in and Lesniak being roughed up. Spurs then conceded a free kick on the left just outside the area. Reuten curled the ball into the net at the near post to put them in front again.

Borahsasar fired wide as Spurs pushed players forward. Reuten was booked for tripping Akindayini as he skipped past him and all the Spurs players went up for the free kick. Brugge finally cleared the ball after having to block two goal attempts and Onomah had to chase back to stop a clear run on the Spurs goal before the referee blew for time.

Brugge are a strong attacking side and they put the Spurs defence under a lot of pressure and were unlucky to only get one goal in the first half. Having weathered the storm, Spurs came back strongly in the second half but just could not apply enough pressure.
