Management
Ange Postecoglou will become the first Australian to manage in the Premier League after the club confirmed his appointment on a four-year contract at the beginning of June.
Postecoglou's appointment has divided opinions amongst Spurs fans and pundits. He arrives after spending two seasons at Celtic where he won five trophies including an impressive treble in the last. However, the main concern is whether or not this role is too much of a step up for Postecoglou considering the difference in quality between the Scottish Premiership and English Premier League.
Postecoglou has said that he will look to establish a more attacking mentality in the players in the coming season which, after last season, is something that Tottenham desperately need. However, whether or not his attack-minded plans will include Harry Kane is yet to be seen.
Harry Kane
One of the first key tasks for the ex-Celtic boss will be to keep Harry Kane at the club following interest from several high-profile European sides for the England captain.
Despite Tottenham finishing 8th in the Premier League last season, Kane found the net an impressive 30 times, finishing the campaign as the league's second-highest goalscorer behind Erling Haaland (36).
Kane, who is currently 47 goals short of Alan Shearer's all-time Premier League goalscoring record, has had interest from Bayern Munich who could be willing to up their bid to 100 million Euros before the transfer window shuts. Although Spurs would prefer to have the services of their star striker next season, 100 million Euros for a 30-year-old could be tempting and a number of replacements have been rumoured in the media over recent weeks.
Bookies currently have Kane odds-on at a price of 2/5 to be a Bayern Munich player after the summer transfer window closes and 11/4 to remain as a Tottenham player.
Upcoming Season Prediction
As with any new season, teams will look to improve on the last, and for Spurs, finishing above 8th should be more than achievable with or without Harry Kane.
European football and the additional fixtures that come with it can be a distraction for teams and so Tottenham's absence from the Champions League & Europa League could prove to be a blessing in disguise to help the club get back on track with a top 4 or 6 finish.
Spurs will open their 2023/24 campaign with a trip to the Gtech Community Stadium to face Brentford where the two sides saw out a 2-2 draw last season. Brentford finished just a point behind Tottenham last season and managed to win 3-1 in the reverse fixture back in May. That opening game is swiftly followed up by a home match against Manchester United a week later and so maximum points away to Brentford is essential if Postecoglou is to get off to a good start at his new club and ease the pressure heading into a somewhat easier run of fixtures against the likes of Bournemouth, Burnley and Sheffield United.
There is a lot of uncertainty around how Spurs will perform this season and a lot of it comes down to the manager. Postecoglou will have to get his system right and it remains to be seen whether or not he'll be able to solve the communication problems encountered at the club last season and get his players playing the flowing attack-minded football that he desires.
If Harry Kane does leave the club after a 13-year stint, his replacement will have a lot to live up to. Some names which have been rumoured include Brighton's Evan Ferguson, Eintracht Frankfurt's Kolo Muani, fellow England striker Ollie Watkins and Benfica's Goncalo Ramos amongst others, and careful consideration will be needed to get the right player in at the first attempt.
