March was great! Can April be better?
March was great with 4 wins and a draw in our 5 games. It is now 10 games since Spurs did lose, and that was the disaster at Wolves, which was our only defeat in the last 15 games. Those March results have been achieved without key players Aaron Lennon and Ledley King. Jermain Defoe and Tom Huddlestone missed three of the games too. Not that he is everyone's favourite, but Jermaine Jenas has been missing too.
Spurs have now won 5 consecutive league games, which as reported elsewhere equals our current Premier League record. This will hopefully be beaten at The Stadium of Light on Saturday.
The overall performance marks for the team have improved over February, and almost without fail, all of the players have improved their personal standing in the eyes of Spurs Odyssey readers, up to 200 of whom contribute their grades after every game.
Gareth Bale continues to lead the player rankings for the season after three great months, in which he has won our man of the match award on many occasions. Gareth was your overall man of the match in two of this month's games, but Wilson Palacios, Eidur Gudjohnsen and David Bentley have each been voted player of the match on one occasion.
Wilson Palacios has edged out Bale for this month's Player of the Month award with three great performances. Wilson is now hopefully going to be preserved beyond the amnesty date in April, after which he can play, even if he gets that tenth booking of the season.
The strength of the squad this time has been wafer thin, and there have been debuts for Jake Livermore (briefly as substitute), and Kyle Walker.
I note that the grading for unforced errors has been low in relation to most of the other skill areas, and with the degree of difficulty coming up in our April games, we are going to need our key players at full fitness, along with even better application than we have seen in March.
One thing is for sure. If April does turn out to be better than March, we'll be on our way to the FA Cup Final, and the Champions' League!
Don't forget to check out the cumulative appearances and grades for the players as the season progresses - below. The grades are based upon a mark out of ten.
