Spurs kicked off the first half and looked rusty as the Brazilians closed them down in midfield turning over the ball regularly during the match.

Spurs had to clear the ball off the line from a corner before Ball gave away a free kick to prevent Dos Santos getting past after Spurs lost the ball in midfield. Voss saved the free kick from Calvo. Bernardo turned a corner from Calvo wide before they took the lead. After a corner had been played back it was fired into the area where Ball got in the way only for the ref to award a penalty for handball. Calvo stepped up to fire it inside the left post. Dos Santos headed Rodrigues cross wide before the break.

Spurs looked better in the second half but went further behind when Da Silva got down the right to give Dos Santos a tap-in for their second.

Spurs made a double change as they sought to drive forward. Miller replaced Lesniak and Georgiou came on for Lameiras to work the left flank with Oduwa joining Akindayini in a 4-4-2 before Akindayini gave way to Harrison. Harrison headed over from Ogilvie's cross. Sonupe replaced McEvoy on the right. Miller's shot on the turn was blocked at the near post following a corner as Spurs committed players to attack. A late response by Fluminense saw McQueen clear off the line before Valentim struck the crossbar.

Second Game – Cruzeiro

Spurs(4-3-3) – Voss, Walkes(Amos), McQueen, Ogilvie, Walker-Peters, Winks, Lesniak, Miller(Lameiras 29), Sonupe(McEvoy 34), Harrison(Akindayini 34), Oduwa

Booked – Marchiote 4(Foul on Oduwa), B. Da Silva 15(Foul on Oduwa), J. Da Silva(UGC)

Man of the match – Oduwa.

From the start it was obvious that Cruzeiro remembered Oduwa from the IMG Cup in December as they tried to stop him playing this time. Marchiote was booked very early for a foul on the wide man. Miller fired wide as Spurs began to push forward. The Brazilians closed down quickly and hard on Spurs which saw a loose ball seized upon by Andrade who steered it past Voss to open the scoring. De Almeida fired wide before Oduwa played a one two on the left before he got round the back and into the area before he was stopped by Bruno Da Silva winning a penalty. Winks stepped up to beat Bernardon to his right.

Andrade was replaced for the second half with Judivan Da Silva pushed up front. Miller was replaced by Lameiras in midfield as Spurs began to get on top. Cruzeiro were being kept at a distance and Dos Reis had a weak long range effort.

Spurs replaced Harrison up front with Akindayini and McEvoy came on for Sonupe who had begun to make telling runs down the right. After Walker-Peters was fouled and prevented from getting up quickly a flare-up developed that resulted in the ref booking Lameiras and Da Silva. With Spurs committed to attack, Cruzeiro nearly pinched the win when following a free kick Da Sliva had a shot cleared off the line and in added time Amos blocked Da Silva's effort for a corner.

The poor start saw Spurs finish the day bottom of the group.
