This is crunch time

Audere est Facere

Two teams with a proud history in domestic and European football clash this Sunday (2.15pm - SKY) in a vital game with regards to Premier League survival.

Forest famously won the European Cup in consecutive seasons with Brian Clough and Peter Taylor at the helm in 1979 and 1980. Spurs only last season won their fourth European trophy, although the best they've done in the Champions League is to reach the 2019 final. We famously reached the semi-final of the European Cup in 1962, losing narrowly to Benfica 64 years ago.

This week, after an excellent point gained at Anfield and a high energy winning performance at home against Atletico Madrid, Spurs recovered pride and high morale, despite aggregate defeat and exit from the Champions League. Forest made 9 changes last night in Denmark against Midtjylland, clearly prioritising Sunday's game, but still made it to the Europa League quarter-final (after a dismal home effort in the penalty shoot-out) where they will face Porto.

Both teams have poor league form. Spurs are seeking their first league win of 2026 at the thirteenth attempt. Lucky for some? We'll see. Forest haven't won a league game in their last seven matches and missed the chance to go above Spurs when they only drew at home to Fulham last Sunday.

There is no doubt Forest have missed their top scorer of the previous two seasons, Chris Wood, who hasn't played since October. Igor Jesus has managed just two league goals this season. Skipper Morgan Gibbs-White who was linked with Spurs at the start of the season - much to the disdain of club owner Mr. Marinakis - is Forest's top scorer with eight league goals.

When we played at the City Ground in December and lost 3-0, we were 11th in the league table. Forest were 17th. We went to Forest just after beating Slavia Prague in our sixth Champions League game, and our team was:- 1. Vicario; 23. Pedro Porro, 17. Romero (Capt.) 37. Van de Ven, 24. Spence (sub 33. Davies, 59); 30. Bentancur (sub 15. Bergvall, 59), 14. Gray (sub 6. Palhinha, 59); 20. Kudus (sub 22. Johnson, 80), 7. Xavi, 39. Kolo Muani (sub 11. Tel, 80); 9. Richarlison. We displayed the spirit of Christmas.

Sean Dyche was Forest's third coach of the season and after beating us, they lost 1-0 at Fulham, 2-1 at home to Manchester City, 2-0 at home to Everton and 3-1 at Aston Villa. They started the year quite well with a win at West Ham, a draw against Arsenal and another away win at Brentford.

Forest (i.e. Mr. Marinakis) sacked Sean Dyche as head coach after just 114 days in charge in February. Vitor Pereira (last known at Wolves) signed a deal until the end of next season to become Nottingham Forest's fourth manager of the campaign.

Forest are the first top-flight club since the league's formation in 1888 to have four permanent managers in one season.

Last year's home game was played on Easter Monday night. Nuno's Forest were two up inside 16 minutes. We had to wait till the 87th minute before Richarlison reduced the deficit. The game preceded an FA Cup semi-final defeat for Forest against Man City, played on the same day that Spurs shamefully lost 5-1 at Liverpool. After beating Spurs, Forest managed just one more win (at West Ham) in the season. Spurs lost four of their last five league games, and their only victories were in The Europa League.

We've now played Forest 17 times in the Premier League and have the worst record against them compared to all current teams in the table, barring four ever-present sides - Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester United and Chelsea. We are fighting to preserve OUR ever-present status in the Premier League.

Forest have now beaten us in three consecutive league games. The last time they managed this feat was between 1995 and 1997, when they actually beat us four times, and knocked us out of the 1996-96 FA Cup in a penalty shoot-out.

Igor Tudor has been charged with misconduct over his claim that referee Thomas Bramall favoured the "home team" in Spurs' 2-1 Premier League loss at Fulham three weeks ago. He and the club have until Monday to respond, so he will be in the dug-out on Sunday. With Solanke (hopefully) and Richarlison returning to the squad and others such as Souza, Bissouma and perhaps Palhinha available, Tudor has more choices for his starting line-up. There must be an argument for Richarlison replacing Kolo Muani, but perhaps no other changes to the side. We'll see.

It should be a great game with a full house urging the team on to victory. I'll go for a precious 2-1 win to put us four points above Forest and the drop zone.

John Robertson, who died in December, aged 72, was a key member of Brian Clough's Division One Champions and subsequent European Cup winning sides. Clough described him as a "Picasso of the game." Robertson scored the only goal when Forest retained the European Cup against a Hamburg side which included Kevin Keegan. The previous year, Robertson had laid on Trevor Francis's winning goal against Malmo. He also scored the winner from the penalty spot in the 1978 League Cup Final against Liverpool. Robertson played in 243 consecutive games between December 1976 and December 1980.

Did you know?Jimmy Greaves appears twice in a list of 9 players who have scored 20 or more goals against one Club. Jimmy scored 24 against Nottingham Forest and 20 against Burnley.

Michael Oliver is in charge of Spurs for the 56th time. His first game with us this season was our home win over Burnley. Here's hoping for another win!

Due to the International break and our non-participation in the FA Cup quarter-finals, and our exit from Europe, we will have a three week break before a trip to Sunderland and the start of a vital seven-game run-in.

Whatever the result on Sunday, the Spurs Odyssey match report will be delayed on Monday.
